My Journey: From Traditional Thai Massage to Founding Home Massage Sharjah

Omar Hassan founded Home Massage Sharjah in 2021, after training in traditional Thai massage at Wat Pho in Bangkok and working in resort and hotel wellness across the UAE. This is his story, in his own words.

Where My Passion for Massage Began

My name is Omar Hassan, and my journey into the world of massage and wellness has been shaped by a passion for helping people relax, recover, and feel better in their everyday lives.

I have always believed that physical wellbeing plays an important role in how we experience life. The demands of work, family responsibilities, long hours, and everyday stress can leave people physically exhausted and mentally drained. I became interested in massage because I wanted to understand how professional bodywork could help people take a step back from their busy routines and prioritise their wellbeing.

However, I did not want to approach massage as simply a way to provide relaxation. I wanted to understand its traditions, techniques, and principles properly. I knew that developing real skills would require dedication, practical training, and a willingness to learn from experienced professionals.

That desire eventually led me towards Thailand, a country with a rich history of traditional massage and wellness practices.

My Training at Wat Pho in Thailand

One of the most important chapters of my professional journey was my training associated with Wat Pho Thai Traditional Medical and Massage School in Bangkok, Thailand.

Learning about traditional Thai massage introduced me to a different perspective on bodywork. I developed an appreciation for the importance of technique, controlled movements, stretching, body positioning, and understanding how different approaches can contribute to a client’s comfort and relaxation.

The experience also taught me that becoming a capable massage professional requires patience and practice. Learning a technique is only the beginning; applying it responsibly and adapting the treatment to each individual’s needs requires attention and experience.

My time in Thailand strengthened my respect for traditional massage practices and encouraged me to continue improving my knowledge. I began to see massage not merely as a service, but as a profession that demands discipline, sensitivity, and a commitment to client wellbeing.

Building My Career in the UAE

After developing my interest in massage, I turned my attention towards the UAE, where hospitality and wellness services play an important role in the experience offered by many hotels and resorts.

Working in this environment was an opportunity to understand the expectations of clients who value professionalism, comfort, and attention to detail. My professional experience extended across resort and hospitality settings in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah.

Each environment helped me appreciate a different aspect of the wellness industry. I learned the importance of maintaining high standards, respecting client privacy, communicating clearly, and ensuring that the treatment experience felt organised and professional.

Working with people from different backgrounds also taught me that wellness is a personal experience. Some clients seek a peaceful escape from a demanding schedule, while others are interested in traditional massage techniques or simply want to relax after travelling or spending long hours at work.

I came to understand that excellent service involves much more than performing a massage. It also means listening carefully, understanding preferences, maintaining hygiene, and treating every client with respect.

At the same time, working in hospitality was not always easy. Expectations could be demanding, working hours could be challenging, and maintaining consistency required continuous effort. These experiences taught me to remain composed under pressure and to treat every responsibility as an opportunity to improve.

What Inspired Me to Start My Own Business

As I gained a broader understanding of the wellness industry, I began thinking about how massage services could become more convenient for people living in the UAE.

I recognised that many people had demanding lifestyles. Professionals often finished work exhausted, families had limited free time, and hotel guests sometimes preferred the privacy and convenience of receiving a treatment in their own rooms.

I began to consider a simple idea: what if people could enjoy a professional massage without having to travel to a spa or wellness centre?

The idea of bringing massage services directly to clients appealed to me because it combined two things I valued: professional service and convenience.

However, I also understood that starting a business would bring challenges I had not experienced in the same way while working for others. I would need to build a reputation, manage operations, earn customer trust, and create a service that people could rely on.

There were moments when I questioned whether I was ready to take that responsibility. Leaving the familiarity of established workplaces to build something independently required courage, careful planning, and a willingness to accept uncertainty.

Nevertheless, I believed the idea was worth pursuing.

Founding Home Massage Sharjah in 2021

In 2021, I took a major step in my professional journey by establishing Home Massage Sharjah.

For me, founding the company represented more than starting a business. It was an opportunity to bring together my interest in traditional massage, my understanding of hospitality, and my ambition to offer clients a more convenient wellness experience.

The early stages demanded persistence. Building awareness, reaching potential customers, establishing trust, and organising a reliable service required time and effort.

I quickly learned that running a business was very different from concentrating solely on a treatment. Every decision mattered, from how enquiries were handled to how appointments were organised and how the overall customer experience was maintained.

There were challenges along the way. Some plans required adjustments, some expectations had to be reconsidered, and progress was not always as fast as I wanted. Building a business meant learning to manage uncertainty while continuing to focus on the bigger picture.

Rather than allowing difficulties to discourage me, I tried to approach them as lessons. I learned to be more patient, to think carefully before making decisions, and to recognise that long-term success depends on consistency rather than quick results.

The Ups and Downs That Shaped Me

My entrepreneurial journey has taught me that success rarely follows a straight line.

There are moments when everything seems to be moving in the right direction, and there are periods when progress feels slower than expected. Running a business requires the ability to handle both situations without losing sight of the original purpose.

I have come to appreciate that setbacks can reveal weaknesses in a plan, highlight areas that need improvement, and encourage a person to develop new skills. At the same time, even small achievements can provide motivation to continue.

One of the most important lessons I have learned is that customer trust cannot be demanded; it must be earned through professional conduct, clear communication, reliability, and respect.

I also learned that a business should never stop improving. Client expectations change, the industry develops, and there is always something new to learn. Remaining committed to quality means being willing to listen, adapt, and improve.

These experiences have strengthened my belief that building a sustainable wellness business requires both professional ability and personal resilience.

My Philosophy: Bringing Comfort to the Client

The idea behind Home Massage Sharjah is built around convenience, professionalism, and a personalised approach to wellness.

I believe clients should be able to enjoy their massage experience in a setting where they feel comfortable, whether that is their home or a hotel room, subject to the service available.

For me, the details matter. Punctuality, cleanliness, respectful communication, privacy, and attention to individual preferences all contribute to a positive experience.

My interest in traditional Thai massage has also reinforced my appreciation for the knowledge and practice behind different massage techniques. I believe every treatment should be approached responsibly, with consideration for the client’s comfort and needs.

Ultimately, my goal is to make the experience straightforward and reassuring, so clients can spend less time worrying about arrangements and more time enjoying a moment for themselves.

Looking Towards the Future

When I reflect on my journey, I see how each stage has contributed to my ambitions: learning about massage traditions in Thailand, developing an understanding of hospitality in the UAE, and taking the risk of establishing my own company in 2021.

The journey has involved uncertainty, hard work, lessons, and opportunities for growth. It has reminded me that building something meaningful takes time and that determination matters most when things do not go according to plan.

Through Home Massage Sharjah, I want to continue developing a service that values professional standards, client comfort, and the convenience of receiving massage at home.

I know there will always be challenges ahead, but I also know that every challenge offers an opportunity to learn something new.

For me, this journey has never been only about owning a company. It is about turning a professional passion into a service that people can trust, continuing to improve with experience, and building a business whose reputation is earned through the quality of the experience it provides.

Home Massage Sharjah is the next chapter of that journey — one built on learning, persistence, and the belief that good service begins with genuine respect for the people we serve.
